Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has made it an agency's mission to reverse the chronic disease epidemic by implementing the "Make America Healthy Again" initiative, which aims to eliminate toxic food dyes and processed foods from the nation's food supply chain.
In response to the incoming HHS policy, one of the world's top players in the spices, herbs, and seasonings industry has announced plans to reformulate its products to align with the MAHA agenda.
"We are seeing a tick-up in reformulation activity," McCormick & Co. CEO Brendan Foley told analysts in an earnings call. He said the company's initiative was occurring "across our customer base, but also a lot of new product activity, too."
The Hunt Valley, Maryland-based spice company is known for its black pepper and paprika products and iconic brands like Frank's RedHot, Old Bay, and Cholula.
McCormick's surge in reformulation activity only suggests that the company is getting ahead of RFK Jr.'s incoming MAHA policies, which focus on removing artificial dyes and other harmful ingredients from the food supply chain.
Foley also told investors that McCormick has been well underway with reformulation work and has moved to reduce sodium, which aligns further with the MAHA movement.
Earlier this year, McCormick removed toxic Red No. 3 from its products in anticipation of a planned ban by the Food and Drug Administration.
RFK Jr. recently met with big food executives from PepsiCo, Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, WK Kellogg, and JM Smucker to discuss the productive first steps to rid foods of the worst ingredients and reverse the chronic disease epidemic.

Seems like a positive move, but I wonder if reformulations might be undertaken to disguise the addition of GLP-1 optimized ingredients. This issue is not getting enough attention.
For those who don’t know, “Big Food” has seen an economic downturn as people turn to GLP-1 agonists to lose weight, thereby consuming less food. They have turned to ingredient manufacturers and suppliers for additives that would bypass the appetite suppressing effects of drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro. They’re just fighting back against Big Pharma, right? WRONG… This is another assault on our bodies. GLP-1 is a naturally occurring hormone, with many different functions, affecting several processes in our bodies. What happens to those processes when a substance that would override the effects of GLP-1 agonists is added to the food supply? Everyone, even those not on fad medications will be hungrier, have more cravings, consume more, and inevitably, we’ll become a fatter, sicker, society.
That isn’t even the worst part… Food manufacturers are under no obligation to disclose the addition of these ingredients, much less their intended purpose. Ingredient suppliers are not required to provide details of the companies that they are working with or what substance has been added to which raw material.
Looking for more information on this? Good luck… Information on this issue is hard to come by and shrouded in secrecy. If you’re determined (and lucky), you might stumble upon a recording of an investor call where it was openly discussed or, perhaps, a video of a top executive, bragging at a conference seminar that they had found a solution to strike back at the pharmaceutical companies.
We need to demand, at the very least, that manufacturers be forced to disclose the use of these ingredients. Better yet, let’s get these poisons banned from our food supply.
I'm sure as many as can, they will be dousing everything in more high fructose corn syrup. blech.
